Emerald Rae studied Medical Technology straight out of school to work in Pathology laboratories as she wanted to save the world. Sought other areas to work over the years, mainly hospitality; managing restaurants and all aspects of catering, cooking, barista etc. 6 years ago, she fell sick with pneumonia and offered to help her friend, as she recovered, in her Annie Sloan Chalk Paint shop.
She already had a penchant for collecting antique furniture and quickly learned to use as Chalk Paint to transform furniture. She loves shabby chic! It has been a gradual blossoming for her to trust her skills and taste in colours as well as textures. She loved it so much that she took on the shop. People now hire her to paint their beloved furniture and it is totally rewarding seeing the transformation. She enjoys anything not perfect and a bit off centre, including the Mad Hatter/ Alice in Wonderland theme. The older and more falling apart looking, the better for her, although she paints according to the client. Flipping through the photos, she was surprised at how many different modalities she paints: from painted teapots to upholstered chairs, picture frames to french armoires. Anything is possible!
